Chantilly Senior Receives Scholarship From McDonald's Franchisee

Corinne Cardinal received $1,200 to compete at a DECA conference.

On Monday, May 14, Van Management gave a $1,200 scholarship to a senior, Corinne Cardinal. The scholarship funded Cardinal’s participation in the 2012 DECA International Career Development Conference, which took place in Salt Lake City, April 28 – May 1, 2012.

Van Management, Inc. is a local McDonald’s restaurant management company run by a family of franchisees, the Van Valkenburgs.

Cardinal and five other Chantilly High School students who competed at the DECA Conference were eligible for the scholarship.

“While all of the applicants were impressive, Corinne’s extraordinary work stood out to the entire judging panel,” said Neva Van Valkenburg, McDonald’s franchisee and vice president, Van Management, Inc. “We are proud to provide a scholarship to such a bright student to offset the cost of her participation in the prestigious DECA competition.”

Cardinal competed in the Hotel & Lodging Management division at the Conference.
