Fairfax County Police responded Friday afternoon to a report of a suspicious package at or near the National Reconnaissance Office at 14675 Lee Road in Chantilly. The National Reconnaissance Office is in charge of designing, building and launching U.S. intelligence satellites.

"People are on high alert and there will be a lot of officials here [for the inauguration] in the area and we are prepared to respond to calls such as these," said FCPD spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

"It was not an explosive device," Caldwell said.

"Our people were called out," Caldwell. Police in the area are "on high alert with the inaugural week," she noted.

Police were called to the scene at 1:23 p.m. Traffic was stopped in both directions in the immediate area until police cleared the scene at about 2:15 p.m., Caldwell said.

Personnel from the county's Explosive Ordinance Department checked out the package. "Our EOD explosive ordinance folks go in here to check it out, their personnel goes in there," Caldwell said.

There was no description of the package in the police report, Caldwell said.
