Williams Chosen as Loudoun Vice Chairman

Broad Run supervisor chosen to replace Janet Clarke, who asked to rotate the position.

The Loudoun Board of Supervisors elected Shawn Williams (R-Broad Run) to serve as the board's vice chairman for 2013.

The vice chairman performs duties of the chairman in his absence.

Williams replaces Janet Clarke (R-Blue Ridge) who said she preferred that the postition rotate among supervisors, a practice in place in many town councils.

Supervisor Suzanne Volpe (R-Algonkian) nominated Williams, and not other nominations were made. Williams was chosen on an 8-0-1 vote with Clarke absent.

Congratulations Mr. Williams! I hope that you will take this opportunity to use your political skills to make sure that the entire Board of Supervisors are aware of the issue regarding the changes to the One Loudoun Town Center rezoning.

Please reconsider approval of rezoning the town center to a Special Activities Sports Center (stadium) for soccer, baseball, and concerts adjacent to a retirement community as well as other established residential areas A manual developed by the international soccer federation (FIFA) found here: www.fifa.com/mm/document/tournament/competition/football_stadiums_technical_recommendations_and_requirements_en_8211.pdf
Makes a statement that should be considered. On page 34 it says:
"Environmental compatibility is a prime consideration when selecting a site for a
stadium. It is a changing, complex and politically charged subject that must be analysed carefully. ..... Proximity to existing residential areas is the most sensitive issue in the development of a new stadium and if possible this should be avoided."
