Glory Days Cross Country Invitational 5K Cancelled Due to Flooding

Flooding in the park has caused organizers to cancel the popular high school cross country invitational race.

This week's rainy forecast has impacted one of the biggest high school cross-country invitational in Northern Virginia.

The Glory Days Grill Cross Country Invitational and open 5K at Bull Run Regional Park scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled, race organizers PR Races announced Friday afternoon.

According to an email sent by PR Races to participants of the race, the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority said that many sections of Bull Run Regional Park are experiencing significant flooding, including sections runners would traverse on the race course.

"In the interest of safety, they have required that we cancel the races scheduled for tomorrow — the entire high school cross country meet and the open 5K — and they will likely close Bull Run entirely since it seems the flooding may continue/increase," the email read.

Saturday's weather forecast in Northern Virginia predicts an 80 percent chance of rain with highs near 64 degrees.

Because race costs have already been paid, Potomac River Running is not able to issue refunds to open 5K participants. However, participants can visit the Potomac River Running store in Fairfax Corner pick up their race shirt and also get a $15 voucher to use at Potomac River Running anytime before the end of the year, or, PR can apply participants' race entry fees towards a future race this fall.
