Rescue Dogs, Handlers, Return to Fairfax from Washington Mudslides

Dogs and handlers helped locate bodies in disaster.

After searching for victims of the deadly mudslides in Washington state, three Fairfax County rescue dogs and their handlers will be welcomed home Thursday in Chantilly.

WTOP reports that Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova will lead the welcome at the rescue team's headquarters.

The dogs and handlers found the bodies of several mudslide victims. County officials say they were specifically requested to aid in the recovery efforts.

The March 22 mudslide killed at least 39 people and buried dozens of homes in a community about 55 miles northeast of Seattle.

Bulova says the Fairfax K-9 team members helped bring closure to victims' families.
