Watch Summer Movies Under the Stars at Free Drive-In Movie Theater

Mark your calendar for Fairfax County's "Starlight Cinema" dates in August.

Five films will be shown in August as part of the county's Starlight Cinema.
Five films will be shown in August as part of the county's Starlight Cinema.

Enjoy what was once an icon of American social life as Starlight Cinema revives the drive-in movie theater with films every Saturday night in Centreville.

Starting August 2, the fun begins before the opening credits roll with music, food and children’s activities from 6 to 8 p.m.

The movie begins at dark. Now there’s an opportunity to sample this old-fashioned entertainment, with a date or the whole family, from the comfort of your own car or lounging on blankets in front of the screen. You should bring a radio for listening outdoors or in case you have to park in the overflow lot.

The Starlight Cinema series will feature a different film every Saturday night. These include:

  • August 2: CASABLANCA (Classic drama/romance/war film featuring stars Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid)
  • August 9: DESPICABLE ME 2 (Animated comedy showcasing voices of Steve Carell, Benjamin Bratt, Russell Brand and Miranda Cosgrove)
  • August 16: CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2 (Animated movie with performances by voice actors Bill Hader, Anna Faris and James Caan)
  • August 23: FROZEN (Disney animated feature with voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel)
  • August 30: THE LEGO MOVIE (Animation/Adventure/Comedy movie presenting voices of Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Elizabeth Banks, Jonah Hill and Will Ferrell)

Starlight Cinema is located at 5860 Trinity Parkway in Centreville, Va.

The Summer Entertainment Series is made possible by the Fairfax County Park Authority, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Fairfax County Park Foundation and generous contributions from local businesses and corporate sponsors.

For weather-related cancellations, call 703-324-SHOW (7469) one hour before the show. For more information about the Summer Entertainment Series, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/performances/ or call the Public Information Office at 703-324-8662.
