Chantilly Getting Wawa Store at Dulles Discovery Center

Washington Business Journal reports that much-loved (really! their customers are obsessed) convenience store/gas station will come to the area in development by the Peterson Companies.

Devoted fans of Wawa convenience stores will be delighted to hear that Chantilly will soon get its own, the only one in Fairfax County, according to a story published last week by the Washington Business Journal.

Here's the scoop: The store will be located in the Peterson Companies' Dulles Discovery retail complex bordered by Sully Historic Site and the Air and Space Museum. No word on the timeline but WBJ also notes that Peterson Companies hopes to rezone the land (currently zoned for strip retail) to locate an as-yet-to-be named bank, a Chick-fil-A and a Primrose School in the spot.

If you haven't experienced Pennsylvania-based Wawa, prepare to be seduced by what its followers (more than a million on its Facebook page) say is the best coffee, freshest convenience food (chicken salad, hummus, fresh fruit, etc.) and low prices.

On Buzzfeed, among the "22 reasons Wawa is the greatest gas station in existence," are these gems:

  • Wawa is so clean, you can see your reflection in the floors.
  • Wawa coffee is so good, they package their own blend.
  • Wawa is an Ojibwe Indian word for Canada Goose, which is their mascot.
  • Because Wawa still has its own dairy (its roots go back 100 years to a Pennsylvania dairy), it has amazing dairy products — like its own ice cream!
The Dulles Discovery Retail project is a 7-acre site located off Route 28 at the Air & Space Drive interchange. The retail project is part of the existing Dulles Discovery Office Park, also owned and developed by The Peterson Companies, which consists of 800,000 square feet and is planned for a total of 2.4 million square feet.
