Former Shoppers Food Property Still Vacant

Six months after Shoppers closed, realtors are still working to fill the massive spaces they've left behind.

Six months after Shoppers Food Warehouse closed in Chantilly due to being unprofitable, the lot remains vacant, the glass storefront boarded up and blocked by white walls.

Chantilly could expect to see a new business in the Sully Plaza space once inhabited by Shoppers, according to Combined Properties, which owns the building Shoppers leased.

“We do have numerous interested parties for the space that was Shoppers Food Warehouse,” Combined Properties Marketing Director Laura Dryer said.

She said they hoped to have a lease signed with a retailer by the end of the year.

Supervalu, Inc., which owns the Shoppers brand, closed the store, as well as the Gainesville location, in February because they were no longer profitable, according to Supervalu Spokesman Steve Slyven.

“We operate in a competitive market, and given that, it is occasionally necessary for us to close those stores that are not meeting company goals,” Slyven said.
