Lettuce Voluntarily Recalled for E. Coli Risk

No illnesses reported after Tanimura & Antle Inc. shipment went to 19 states, including Virginia.

Tanimura & Antle Inc. has voluntarily recalled a single lot of romaine lettuce in 19 states—including Virginia—because it may be contaminated with E. coli, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA said the recall affects only Tanimura & Antle Field Fresh Wrapped Single Head Romaine.

The lettuce from the California-based company is packed in a plastic bag with the UPC number 0-27918-20314-9 and may have a "best by" date of Aug. 19. The FDA said the product was available at retail locations from Aug. 2 to 9.

A total of 1,969 cases were shipped to Virginia, Maryland and surrounding states, according to the FDA. In Virginia, the company distributes its lettuce at Costco, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Safeway, Trader Joe's and Walmart, among other places.

Consumers with questions or who want replacement coupons can call at 877-827-7388, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. PDT, Monday-Friday.

Hope no ones get sick and this is just a precaution. I was wondering as I have tried to find out if you can find out where or at least what area a case of beer was purchased. According to Bud-Light they do not track where/what store the beer is shipped to. This would not seem right as what if you got a tainted/bad case of beer, I guess no recall would be done. I am sure they say this to protect the merchants who sell their product as I am sure the question of where/what store did the beer come from when found on underage drinkers. I am trying to find out if a 26 year old friend of my 19 year old son and his 20 year old friend where involved in a crash that took the life of my son's friend. Of course the 26 year old says he did not buy it but they bought it in another county without ID's...that store says no way....they ID all that look under 25. I think he bought the beer for these youngsters and not wanting to be held responsible. If anyone knows how I can find out where or even just the county the beer was purchased from would be of great help please email me your thoughts or idea's on how I can find out at meekme2u@aol.com...
