New iPhone 5 Hard to Find at Northern Virginia Apple Stores

The Apple Store at Tysons had "very limited" supply of the Sprint version of the iPhone 5 on Saturday. Pentagon City's Apple Store sold out Friday.

"The iPhone 5 has arrived!" a recording says when calling the Apple Store at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax.

If you were hoping to walk into a store in Northern Virginia and buy an iPhone 5 after the release on Friday, think again.

"We are actually sold out," said an employee Saturday at the store. The store, which began selling the popular phones on Friday along with other retailers across the nation, sold out of the iPhone 5 Saturday around noon.

The employee said she was not sure when the store will replenish its supply of the new iPhone 5 at Fair Oaks. "That we don't know," she said. "We receive shipments Monday through Saturday."

The Apple Store at Tysons Corner in McLean is sold out of the AT&T and Verizon iPhone 5s, and was "very limited" Saturday in the Sprint versions of the iPhone 5.

The Apple Store at Pentagon City in Arlington sold out of the iPhone 5 on Friday.

Apple Stores aren't the only retailer selling the new phones.

The Chantilly Target only received five phones to sell due to an unprecedented 1,000 preorders of the phone at the store. Those five phones quickly sold out on Friday, according to its electronics department.

If you call the Best Buy store in Fairfax, at Fairlakes Shopping Center, you'll get a recording letting you know that they will honor pre-orders of the phone, but no iPhone 5s are currently available at the store for purchase. Will they be getting in any soon? "We hope so," said an employee Saturday.

The Verizon store at Fair Oaks Mall had iPhone 5 stores in stock. But not anymore. They sold out on Friday.

iPhone 5s are rumored to be available at Radio Shack. But a call to the Radio Shack in Chantilly on Saturday went straight to...the shrill sound of a fax machine.

I have worked at the Herndon polls on several occasions, and I would like to make sure everyoneRead More understands what Fairfax County and the State of Virginina already require poll workers to do to combat voter fraud. The requirements that people work in their own precincts among their neighbors is to make the likelihood of someone committing voter fraud small at best. We are to stay there all day (5:30 am until the vote count is complete, usually a full hour after the polls close at the earliest) as another check on the chance of someone voting more than once or under more than one name. Both parties are represented among the poll workers by design to even out the chances of at least one worker knowing anyone who might walk in to vote. I have yet to work in a precinct where at least some volunteer poll watchers weren't present for either or both parties (and for all three parties in the election that include Ross Perot) for some or all of the voting hours. Poll workers are instructed on how to challenge a ballot, and I have had to do this myself on at least one occasion. A challenged ballot is sealed and kept, and after the election a panel makes a decision as to whether the ballot will be unsealed and counted. In most cases, the election is clearly won or lost without the challenged ballots, and they are destroyed unopened. I say all this to assure everyone that I feel large scale voter fraud is very unlikely. The need for other measures is unnecessary.
