Restaurant Review: Texas Roadhouse Great for Families

Texas Roadhouse in Chantilly is the very best “family-style” steakhouse in this area, for several reasons besides their buttery-tender, juicy, hand-cut steaks.  All of their side dishes are made from scratch on site, including all of their salad dressings. Even their green beans are smothered in a rich bath of bacon and onions, making them jump right into the stars in flavor.

Now let me talk about their steaks. I ordered their 10-oz Ft. Worth ribeye, and it was done exactly to my specifications, and it is one of the best steaks I have ever had when I order out. It was so tender I could almost cut it with a fork. One word of caution: don’t use their signature Texas Golden steak sauce. It is just plain awful. Ask for their A-1 or Heinz if you must have a steak sauce on the side.

Their baked potato was generously loaded with sour cream, shredded cheese and real bacon bits. The potato was fluffy and freshly-baked, not a microwave reheat. Even better, and a must-order if you visit there, is their loaded sweet potato. It is covered with warm caramel sauce and then topped with warm whipped marshmallows. It is dessert even before you finish your steak, it is that good!

Tell them you are visiting them for the first time, and you are served a free sampler of their best side dishes and toppings to sample. Their samples of home cooked niblet corn, mashed potatoes and crispy fresh mushrooms were very appealing.

The aroma of fresh-baked fluffy rolls is wafting through the restaurant when you arrive, and all of their delicate, melt-in-your mouth rolls come with homemade cinnamon butter. With unlimited rolls, you will have difficulty saving room for your entire steak with sides this good. The rolls are so soft and tender they are addictive.

Dinner and a show? Between courses there are unlimited shelled peanuts to feast on at your table, and every 35 to 40 minutes they crank up the music and the entire wait staff and managers dance in the aisles. Don’t forget to celebrate your birthday here, because they bring a genuine saddle (on a saw horse) and they let the birthday person sit on the saddle while the whole restaurant cheers. (Kids love this.)

Bottom line, if you want a lively, great place to take the family to this holiday season, or one evening in the middle of winter, Texas Roadhouse in Chantilly is the place to go. It is the best value for the money and certainly the best sides to go along with it, and the service is very attentive and polished. When we want to go out for steak, Texas Roadhouse is now my first choice in places to go!
