Medical Massage Specialties (MMS) hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting Tuesday, May 6, at its new location at 10600A Crestwood Drive in Manassas. About 50 people gathered at the new facility, which is also the home of Brian Cooper’s Healing Hands.

Cooper had outgrown previous facilities in the Gainesville area and opened the expanded Manassas location in January. Massage, he explained, is an essential component of a multi-pronged approach to wellness care. As part of his services, he will be partnering with other local businesses to offer health-related classes.

“We want to introduce people to the idea that they can take ownership of their health,” Cooper explained, “that they can be happy and healthy.”

The grand opening drew a crowd of local business leaders and supporters who joined with MMS clients and business partners. Among those on hand was longtime Democratic state Sen. Charles Colgan, who said such ribbon cuttings were a positive sign of economic recovery.

“We haven’t had enough grand openings for small businesses because the economy has been slow,” Colgan said. “This shows good things are happening.”

Among those Cooper thanked for supporting his growing business were the Manassas Chamber of Commerce and the Flory Small Business Center, a Manassas non-profit that helps small businesses expand, increase sales and create jobs.

“We work with existing businesses that have the potential to expand,” said Linda Decker, the Flory Center’s president. She added that MMS was “the ideal client” because the business was poised for growth.

Cooper is nationally certified and licensed by the Board of Nursing to practice therapeutic massage in Virginia. He is also fully certified and licensed to practice in the District of Columbia.

He and his team recognize that many clients in the area suffer from “commuting and computing,” which are leading causes of stress, stiffness and soreness. With that in mind, their services are designed to treat conditions such as chronic pain, muscle stiffness and stress.

“You can’t change your job, and you can’t change where you live,” Cooper said. “But we can help get people back in balance.”

The massage practice offers goal-oriented therapy by providing a variety of massage modalities, including deep tissue and sports massage, muscular fascia work, prenatal massage and hot stone therapy as well as Reiki, aromatherapy, health coaching and other healing arts.

These services are offered in the new larger facility, featuring four treatment rooms plus lounge and classroom space. The practice also offers out-call services, meaning they can bring the spa-like services to any home or office.

In addition to Cooper and his staff – Fiona Jansen, a certified holistic health practitioner, and Jennifer Rader and April Barker, both certified massage therapists – representatives from other health-related companies were on hand for the grand opening.

Those partners, some of which will be offering classes at the MMS office, included:

·      doTERRA Essential Oils.

·      Inner Light Nutrition and Holistic Health.

·      Youngevity nutrition products here and here.
