Chantilly Academy GymStars Outstanding Showing at Level 9 Regional Championships

On the weekend of April 13-14, two Level 9 Chantilly Academy GymStars, Alexa Giovanis of Sterling, and Kelsey O’Connor of Chantilly, competed at the Region 7 Level 9 Regional Championships held at the Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.  Over 350 gymnasts from a six-state region competed for an opportunity to qualify and compete in the Level 9 Junior Olympic (JO) Eastern National Championships to be held May 2-5 in Battle Creek,MI. The top six finishers in each age group qualify to compete in the Eastern National Championship meet.

Both of our Level 9 GymStars had an outstanding meet with four top six placements and one qualifier on the JO Eastern National Championship Region 7 Team in the Senior 8 Age Group.  Alexa Giovanis placed 4th on floor exercise and tied for 5th All-Around, qualifying her to the Region 7 Team and the JO Eastern National Championship.  Teammate Kelsey O’Connor placed 6th on vault and 4th on uneven bars.  She finished as the second alternate to the Region 7 team in the Senior 7 Age Group. Both are seniors in high school and are closing out their club gymnastics careers on a high note!

Other upcoming meets for the GymStars include, on April 27th and 28th, the Level 5 Virginia State Championship Meet in Virginia Beach and the Level 8 Region 7 Championships in Landover, MD.  The Level 4 GymStars will travel to Danville, VA on the weekend of May 4th and 5th for the Level 4 Virginia State Championship Meet.  Go GymStars!
