Outstanding Regional Showing for Chantilly Academy GymStars

Chantilly Academy GymStars Level 10, Level 9 and Level 8 Regional Qualifiers competed in their respective Regional Championships over the last 3 weeks with spectacular results for all athletes.

On the weekend of April 21-22, four Level 10 Chantilly Academy GymStars , Julia McLaughlin of Sterling, Jasmine Shuey of Oakton, Angelique Cross, and Jasmine Dockett of South Riding, competed at the Region 7 Level 10 Regional Championships held at the Parkettes Gymnastics National Training Center in Allentown, PA.  Over 200 gymnasts from a six-state region competed for an opportunity to qualify and compete in the Level 10 Junior Olympic (JO) National Championships to be held May 12-13 in Hampton, VA.   The top seven finishers in each age group, as well as two alternates, qualify to compete in the National Championship meet.  Level 10 is the highest level in USA Gymnastics’ JO program. 

Our Level 10 GymStars had an outstanding showing overall, placing two of our four Regional Qualifiers on the JO National Championship Region 7 Team in the Senior D Age Group.  Angelique Cross finished 3rd Place All Around with a score of 37.350, 4th place on Vault (9.450), 6th place on Uneven Bars (9.200), 3rd place on Balance Beam (9.350), and 5th place on Floor Exercise (9.350). Cross will represent Region 7 on the Senior D team at the National Championship Meet. Her teammate Jasmine Dockett qualified as an alternate in Senior D and had a 5th place finish on beam.  As an alternate, Dockett will compete in the USA Gymnastics National Invitational Tournament held in conjunction with the JO National Championship Meet.

The weekend of April 14-15, three Chantilly Academy GymStar Level 9s, Alexa Giovanis of Sterling, Tricia Grywatch of Ashburn and Megan Riedel of Centreville, competed in the Region 7 Level 9 Championships held at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA.  Megan Riedel tied for 4th place on Uneven Bars at the meet.

This past weekend, Chantilly Academy GymStar Olivia Norman of Herndon competed in the Region 7 Level 8 Championships held at Tulpehocken Jr./Sr. High School in Bernville, PA.  She was our sole GymStar representative winning 9th place All Around, tying for 4th place on Vault and taking 6th place on the Uneven Bars in the Junior C Age Group.  Norman was part of Team Virginia in the Junior C Age Group, and her scores counted towards the team's 1st place finish overall.

Our Level 5 GymStars competed in the Level 5 Virginia State Championships held at Radford University in Radford, VA this past weekend including over 450 athletes from all over the state.  The GymStar State qualifiers were Alexis Vicchio, Bridget Raymond, Anastasia Durning, Isabella DeCroo, Sofia Thompson, Lily Chireix, Payton Zampiello, Dorothy Cervarich, Alisha Gursahaney, Olivia Kielb, Katie MacDonald, Cristina Cole, Julia Pioso, Allison Silas, and Darrian Kapinos.  Our GymStar Level 4s will compete in their Level  4 State Championships to be held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, VA this coming weekend.
