National Weather Service: Slippery 'Black Ice' Roads Expected 'til Tuesday Morning

Expect icy roads in some spots until at least sunrise Tuesday.

The National Weather Service is warning drivers to beware of black ice across Fairfax County through sunrise Tuesday, in a special weather statement issued Monday at 8 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing across the area Monday night, according to the NWS, with roads wet from recent or ongoing precipitation. The area saw a snowfall followed by rain on Monday.

Black ice is expected to form through the overnight hours Monday night. Drivers should expect spots to be icy through sunrise Tuesday on untreated roadways, particularly bridges and overpasses.
