Why is it important?

Dancing is more than just fun – it has social, physical, and cognitive benefits!

Social Benefits

increases self-awareness

encourages social interaction

reduces depression, agitation, anxiety

allows for expression, communication

Physical Benefits

improves cardiovascular health

improves muscle and bone strength

promotes balance and flexibility

maintains independence

Cognitive Benefits

Dancing integrates several brain functions at once —
kinesthetic, rational, musical, and emotional — further increasing your
neural connectivity, making one more resilient to the effects of
dementia in the brain.

Dancing at IMCC

Since we know dancing is so good for us, we dance in
the Adult Day Health Center almost every day! Garrey, our dance
instructor, comes twice a month to teach us some new steps, and lead us
in familiar dances. We also incorporate dancing into our music and music
therapy programming, exercise programs, and sometimes just for fun!
