Is Romney a Christian?

I am asking this very stupid and unfair question precisely because it is as stupid and unfair as questioning President Obama’s faith.  I accept that both are Christians; but to be frank, I do not care.  I care about governance, about making the railroads run on time, about ethics.  This is America.  Religion is not supposed to matter; so what if the son of Billy Graham implies Mormons are not Christian?  How does he know?  Did God send him an email?  A lot of people didn’t think Gnostics were Christian either, but they sure called themselves that.  

And then Mr. Santorum hit the President below the belt, saying that Mr. Obama’s ideas about protecting the environment and the health of Americans are not based on the Bible.  Is he living in the 15th Century?  Wake up! This is the 21st Century. Both ideas of the President by the way will save lives and money. 

To the radical right, I say park your religious beliefs at the Bishop’s pulpit and leave the political pulpit for real issues, thoughtful analysis.  And let’s stop attacking Muslims all the time, essentially alluding to all of them as “radical Islamists.”  People of every faith and no faith do bad things, Christians who protest at Veteran’s burials for example.   My last point here isn’t just that ignorant right wingers need to stop attacking a fine religion they know little about or just stop trying to call the President a Muslim or just stop spouting anti-Mormon junk.  

The point is, one’s faith is a private thing.  Muslims, Mormons, Catholics, Jews, etc are equally good people.  Anyone of any faith or no faith should be able to run for President without his or her faith being an issue.
