With the #teapartyshutdown all over the news and twitterverse, here’s a topical tweet for you: “on my way to a #teaparty rally in #rva – don’t forget to rsvp for oktoberfest!” - @JimLeMunyon
The most worrisome thing about that tweet is not its grammar; it’s that Delegate Jim LeMunyon’s ties to the Tea Party go far beyond promoting their events through social media.
Jim Lemunyon is the darling of the Virginia Tea-Party group, Middle Resolution PAC, which has given him $118,000, more than any other Virginia candidate. In return, he’s sponsored extreme Tea-Party initiatives in the General Assembly like a bill to allow states to nullify federal laws, and he has pushed for a constitutional convention.
The headlines about the shutdown and the debt ceiling calamity show what can happen when the Tea Partiers get their hands on the reigns of government.
This November 5th, let’s vote for Hung Nguyen, the sensible alternative for the 67th district. Hung’s platform of education, transportation, jobs and woman’s rights is grounded in the reality of what this district is facing, not some extreme Tea Party agenda.
