Fair Oaks District Police Report: Shirley Gate Road Sees Second Fatal Accident in Six Days

For the week ending on July 6, there was one major incident, 13 larcenies and one vehicle theft included in the Fair Oaks District Activity Report.  

Major Incident 

• *FATAL CRASH/ARREST: A 27-year-old Burke man was operating a 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse southbound on Shirley Gate Road near Mattie Moore Court on Monday, July 4 shortly before 4 a.m. The vehicle struck a curb and the driver lost control. The Mitsubishi went off the roadway to the right and struck a large tree. This impact caused the vehicle to spin and rotate onto the driver’s side. The Mitsubishi then struck a second large tree before coming to rest. A 21-year-old, female passenger had been in the back seat. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Sara Ghaffari-Nik, of 5455 Midship Court in Burke, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Hossein Ghaffari-Nik, of the same address in Burke, was arrested and . Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation. This was to occur near the intersection of Shirley Gate Road and Mattie Moore Court in less than a week.

• 4400 block of Eastwick Court: Bags stolen from residence
• 4400 block of Fair Lakes Court: Credit cards and cash stolen from business
• 13000 block of Fair Lakes Shopping Center: Perfume stolen from business
• 13000 block of Fair Lakes Shopping Center: Wallet stolen from business
• 3900 block of Fair Ridge Drive: Cash stolen from residence
• 11900 block of Grand Commons Avenue: Wallet stolen from business
• 2900 block of Hunter Mill Road: Cash stolen from business
• 13200 block of Leafcrest Lane: Bicycle stolen from residence
• 4000 block of Majestic Lane: Beer stolen from business
• 13900 block of Metrotech Drive: Clothing stolen from business
• 4100 block of Plaza Lane: License plate stolen from vehicle
• 2600 block of Soapstone Drive: iPod and cash stolen from vehicle

Vehicle Theft

• 2300 block of Dulles Station Boulevard: Ford F150
