Fair Oaks District Weekly Police Report

A summary of incidents reported for Feb. 10-16

For the week ending on Feb. 16, there were three major incidents, 15 larcenies and one vehicle theft in the Fair Oaks District. 

Major Crimes:

  • MALICIOUS WOUNDING/ARREST: Police arrested a 71-year-old man for assaulting an acquaintance, a 64-year-old woman, near the area of McLearen Road and Cobra Drive around 10:49 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12. Both the victim and suspect were taken to the hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries. John S. Som, of Fairfax, was charged with malicious wounding.
  • ASSAULT: A man cut a 20-year-old woman with a sharp instrument as she was leaving Fair Oaks Mall, located at 11750 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 14. The suspect was described as Hispanic, about 30 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 160 pounds. He wore a light blue, short-sleeved, polo-style shirt and jeans. The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
  • SHOOT MISSILE AT OCCUPIED VEHICLE: A 50-year-old Fairfax-area woman was sitting inside her vehicle, parked in the 13200 block of Leafcrest Lane, around 7:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when she heard a popping noise. She exited her vehicle and discovered a small hole in the corner of her rear window. It appears the hole was possibly caused by a BB- type pellet. A light-blue, older-model sedan was seen near her car occupied by at least one white male. No one was injured.

  • Government Center Parkway: Wallet stolen from business
  • Grays Point Road: License plate stolen from vehicle
  • Legato Road: Wallet stolen from business
  • Majestic Lane: Bottles of beer stolen from business
  • Metrotech Drive: Medicine stolen from business
  • Pleasantview Lane: GPS unit stolen from vehicle
  • Summit Corner Drive: Stereo stolen from vehicle
  • Tuckaway Drive: Boxes of Girl Scout cookies stolen from residence
  • Valera Court: Rolex Watch stolen from residence

Vehicle Theft:

  • Monument Drive: 2002 Honda Civic
