Firefighters Find Body While Fighting Brush Fire in Chantilly

Adult male body found Sunday near Fairfax County Parkway and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway.

Firefighters responding to a brush fire Sunday in Chantilly were surprised to find the body of an adult male near Fairfax County Parkway and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported Monday.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an outside fire, Sunday, just after noon, at 12:05 p.m., at Lee-Jackson Memorial Highway and the Fairfax County Parkway in Chantilly, according to a news release.

While fighting the fire, firefighters discovered the body of an unidentified adult male.

Firefighters had encountered grass brush, and several trees on fire near the eastbound ramp of Lee-Jackson Highway to the Fairfax County Parkway upon arrival. Firefighters brought the fire under control. After they put out the fire , firefighters found the body in the area near the fire.

Fire investigators and police are jointly investigating the incident.

The medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death following an autopsy.

Fairfax Fire and Rescue did not provide a description of the body or information about the identity of the man.
