Man Faces Sexual Assault Charges

A local man allegedly sexually abused a child under the age of 13 for months.

A local man was arrested on Thursday night for sexually assaulting a child, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Friday.

Earl Bufford Sandloin, 72, of Buffalo Run Lane in the South Riding area, is charged with one count each of animate object sexual penetration and indecent liberties. Both charges are felonies.

The victim, a Loudoun County child who is under age 13, knew Sandloin, although the two are not related. Authorities believe that he abused the child over the course of several months. The victim's mother reported the alleged abuse "within the last day or two," said Investigator Vince DiBenedetto, a spokesman for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe that most of the abuse occurred at Sandloin's home, which is located just off of Bull Run Post Office Road.

Sandloin was arraigned this morning and is being held in the Loudoun Adult Detention Center without bond. He has a hearing date scheduled for April.

Authorities say that it is "very likely" he will face additional charges. "“We put on the minimum right now. The investigation is still open," said DiBenedetto.
