Police: Chantilly Woman Dies in Car Crash Friday Morning

Erika Alvarado, 39, was killed in a car accident on Route 50 early Friday morning.

A Chantilly resident was killed in a car crash that occurred on Route 50 near Sullyfield Circle in Chantilly early Friday morning.

Fairfax County police are investigating the crash, which took place at around 2 a.m. Friday. According to police, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 39-year-old woman was driving eastbound on Route 50 in the center lane when she lost control of the vehicle, ran off the roadway to the right and struck a pole. 

The driver, Erika Alvarado of Lufthansa Circle in Chantilly, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 29-year-old man, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and is in stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
