Police Cracking Down on Aggressive Drivers

The Sully District Police Station is focusing more attention on aggressive driving.

This past Friday, Fairfax County police arrested a driver who was traveling 105 miles per hour on Route 66.

"It took three miles to get the violator stopped," Lt. John Trace, Assistant Commander of the Sully District station, wrote in an email. He said that the driver was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving on a suspended OL (DOS) and reckless driving (speed).

The arrest comes at a time when local police are focusing on traffic safety. The station recently kicked off a campaign, "Let's Eliminate Aggressive Driving" (LEAD), particularly focusing on the Route 28 corridor and areas throughout the area this month. Police said that aggressive driving peaks in spring due to the warm weather and extended daylight hours.
