UPDATE: Police Say Fatality in Hit and Run was Teenager; Investigating Incident as Suicide

Police were en route after receiving reports man was walking on the right shoulder before he was struck.

UPDATE: The eastbound lanes of I-66 were re-opened by 10 a.m. Tuesday, as state police cleared the scene of this morning’s incident. Further investigation into the matter has revealed that the deceased is a 17-year-old Fairfax male. The incident is being investigated as a suicide.

A pedestrian walking along Interstate 66 eastbound was killed in a hit and run early Tuesday morning, according to Virginia State Police. 

One lane of traffic was blocked at about 7 a.m. while police investigate.

Police are on the scene of what appears to be a fatal hit-and-run in Fairfax County, according to a news release from state police. At 4:41 a.m. Tuesday, state police received its first call about a pedestrian walking on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-66 in Fairfax County. 

Troopers were en-route to the subject when they were notified of the subject having been struck. The male subject was located deceased in the right shoulder at the 57 mile marker. Based on the investigation, he was struck in the right lane and landed in the shoulder.

The subject is male and state police are in the process of making a positive identification and notifying his next of kin.

State police are asking anyone who might have seen the male subject walking along or witnessed him being struck to please call the Virginia State Police at 703-803-0026.

One eastbound lane is closed as troopers conduct their investigation and work to clear the scene, police said at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.
