South Riding Fire Station Celebrates 10 Years of Service

The community celebrated Fire Station 19 last week.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7, Fire Station 19 celebrated 10 years of dedicated professional service to Loudoun County and the South Riding Community.

A fatal house explosion and fire in 1998 demonstrated this particular community’s need for a localized station to provide more timely public safety response. Identifying the need to eliminate extended response times, the Board of Supervisors quickly approved construction for the Dulles South Public Safety Center to house Fire, Rescue and Law Enforcement personnel.

In 2001, fire and rescue staffing was brought to South Riding and Fire Station 19 occupied a temporary site along Route 50 as the Dulles South Public Safety Center was built.  Fire-Rescue crews operated from the temporary station until moving into their permanent residence, along with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, in the spring of 2007.

The station has become an icon in the community and continues to maintain its positive presence.  Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) personnel not only provide fire suppression and EMS capabilities from the facility twenty four hours a day, seven days a week but also provide countywide Hazardous Materials incident response and mitigation.

Personnel ranging from Firefighters to Captains gathered along side senior staff members at station 19 for the luncheon commemorating this milestone in LCFR history. Fire Chief W. Keith Brower, Jr. spoke words of thanks and encouragement to those who gathered in celebration.  Also in attendance was Assistant County Administrator Mr. John Sandy who expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the counties’ emergency personnel on behalf of County Administration.

“Our personnel are dedicated to our core values, Teamwork, Integrity, Professionalism and Service and will continue to display those principles each and every day” said Chief Brower.  “We look forward to providing the citizens of South Riding with skilled, efficient and superior emergency care for many years to come.”
