Officers also issued summonses and warnings.

A patrol by Sully Police District officers Friday led to DWI charges for two drivers, Fairfax County Police report.

Officers from the Sully Police District patroled the area Friday for drunk drivers, and in addition to the two DWI charges, police issued 27 summonses and 35 warnings. A summons is an order to appear before a judge or magistrate, or the writ containing it: "a summons for nonpayment of a parking ticket."

The Fairfax County Police Department patrols the roadways for drunk and impaired drivers. Sobriety checkpoints are one of the tools that police use to make sure drivers are not consuming alcohol and getting behind the wheel. Along with publicity and awareness, checkpoints have proven to be effective in the fight against drunk driving. Each week, hundreds of motorists pass through checkpoints and many are screened for alcohol use.
