Utah Man Charged in Child Porn Case Linked to Fairfax County

Suspect allegedly sent pornographic photos of himself to an undercover officer in Fairfax County who he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

A Utah man was arrested Friday on child porn charges after allegedly sending pornographic photos of himself to an undercover officer in Fairfax County who he reportedly thought was a 14-year-old girl, according to Fairfax County Police and news reports from the Daily Herald in Provo, Utah.

The suspect, Shaun R. Gordon, 25, of Provo, was charged with two counts of using a communications device to solicit a minor and the Utah County Sheriff’s Department charged him with four counts of exploitation of a minor.

Fairfax County detectives contacted Utah's FBI office in July about Gordon, who they alleged made contact with when an undercover officer posed as a 14-year-old girl online, the Daily Herald reported. While communicating via cell phone chat Web sites and Yahoo Messenger Gordon, reportedly sent pornographic pictures of himself, the Daily Herald report said.

Utah County investigators got a search warrant for Gordon's residence and any computers, phones or storage media that he owned, the newspaper reported.

Gordon was arrested in Utah on Thursday and will be extradited to Fairfax County. Detectives worked with several law enforcement agencies on the investigation including the Utah Valley Special Victims Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives from the Fairfax County Police Department Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation on May 14 involving online communications. A search warrant was served in Utah County, Utah on Thursday and charges were subsequently placed against the Provo man. Police arrested him at his parents home and found a laptop there with child porn on it, the Provo newspaper said.
