Chantilly Students National Cyber Patriot Champions

Team won at competition in Maryland over the weekend.

Last week marked the fourth and final round of competitions for the Air Force Association CyberPatriot V National High School Cyber Defense Competition. This past Friday, five students from Chantilly Academy – A Governor’s STEM Academy competed in the Open Division National Finals Competition event against 12 other competitor teams from across the country. 

On Saturday evening, Fairfax County Public Schools teams swept all honors in the 2013 AFA CyberPatriot National Championship Competition. Chantilly Academy’s TEAM VOID was honored as 2013 AFA CyberPatriot Open Division National Champions, and runner-up teams from Marshall Academy earned second and third place honors.

Nationally there were more than 1,200 teams (a team consisted of two to six students) who competed in two preliminary rounds and National Semifinals to determine who would be invited to the National Finals competition held this past weekend at the Gaylord National Resort and Conference Center located at National Harbor in Maryland.

Organizers thanked Chantilly High School’s business partner Northrop Grumman and the Air Force Association (AFA) - General Charles A. Gabriel Chapter for their invaluable support. Northrop Grumman’s support for public education is "exceptional," organizers said in a news release, noting that they provided "tremendous resources, they encouraged and provided time for their cyber security subject matter expert employees to mentor our teams."
