Original Post:

NASA released a statement Friday announcing the postponement of Enterprise's departure to the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York, NY, because of bad weather.

Mounted atop the same Boeing 747 that carried the from Florida to Virginia, the Enterprise was scheduled to leave Monday morning for New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"To ensure a safe flight for Enterprise and the SCA,” according to a statement released by the space agency, “NASA managers, in consultation with the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, decided Friday to delay the flight because of inclement weather predicted in both New York and Washington, where the flight will originate.”

The flight is delayed until at least Tuesday, but possibly longer.

I, too ,would like to know when it departs if anyone finds out. I've found very little information from NASA or any other source about Enterprise's departure.

"somehow I doubt this will be the last ship to carry the name Enterprise."

Yes, please! They seem to be completely ignoring the fact that people might be interested in it taking off here too. My husband was looking forward to seeing the Discovery fly in for months, but had to be away on business. Now he's hoping to see the Enterprise at least.

@Cherie, I do know that media is not invited to watch the Enterprise take off. That doesn't mean it won't be visible by certain locations. Last I heard, the airport had not decided which runway to use.
Sam F. April 25, 2012 at 12:35 PM
Couple of things... The runway won't be known until that day due to the prevailing winds. As for which runway, my money's on 1R (the easternmost runway, closest to 28) due to its proximity to the Udvar-Hazy Center. And, due to the heightened level of security, please keep an eye on your belongings and notify security of any suspicious packages. This is also the reason why they're not announcing the time -- they don't want to give the terrorists a chance to spoil the departure. :-|
