Redistricting Forum
The Independent Bipartisan Advisory Commission on Redistricting has scheduled four public forumsaround the state this month as part of its goal to ensure bipartisan citizen involvement in the GeneralAssembly and Congressional redistricting process.
The Northern Virginia Forum will be held on March 15 at 7 p.m. at George Mason University, Meese Conference Room located in Mason Hall
The Commission invites citizens to present their ideas about how new political district boundaries shouldbe drawn in keeping with population changes recorded by the 2010 Census.

With broad public input and with the assistance of impartial experts, the Commission has been chargedto make recommendations about new district maps for the 100 seats in the House of Delegates, 40 seats in the state Senate and Virginia’s 11 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
To encourage citizen engagement, the Commission will also collect public comments on its website (http://lwv-va.org/redistricting2011.html ) and through the use of social media. Additionally, the Commission will review new district maps presented bystudent teams in the Virginia College and University Legislative Redistricting Competition.

The Commission will present its report April 1, to allow for full consideration of its recommendations priorto the reconvened session at which the General Assembly will hear from its own committees and vote onnew districts.
