Major Construction Coming to Stringfellow Road

The two-year project to widen Stringfellow Road may temporarily restrict traffic movement.

Stringfellow Road will undergo some big changes over the next two years, and residents can learn what to expect at a public meeting next week.

VDOT will host the meeting at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, April 3 in the Chantilly High School library.

Construction workers will widen a portion of Stringfellow Road, from Fair Lakes Boulevard to Route 50, expanding it from two lanes to four. They will also add a six-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the road, a ten-foot wide shared-use path on the east side.

The estimated 23,000 drivers who use the road daily can also expect to see a new left-turn lane northbound to Route 50. Workers will also make some changes to the southbound approach to Route 50, improve the intersection.

The $63 million project is expected to continue until summer 2015.

According to VDOT, portions of the work will be performed at night and could temporarily restrict Stringfellow Road traffic to one-way. If this is the case, VDOT says it will provide public notice well in advance.
