Last year, Northern Virginia saw record-breaking temperatures, according to the National Climate Data Center. Dulles International Airport recorded its hottest temperatures since record-keeping began 50 years ago, according to the report. The DC metro area was 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit warmer in 2012 than the annual average.

Some say higher temperatures are due to climate change. Here is what Congressman Frank Wolf (R-10th) has had to say on the issue:

"I believe that global warming is real," he told the Richmond Times-Dispatch in 2010. "The National Academy of Sciences has presented evidence that the Earth’s surface is warming because of human activities, including increased worldwide industrial development, over the past several decades." The link will take you to an interactive map provided by U.S. Rep. Henry Waxman that allows you to look at every congressional district in the country, with the photo above showing results for the 10th District of Virginia, represented by Wolf.

Waxman released a report Tuesday comparing the impacts of climate change in members’ districts with members’ voting records.

The report found a widespread “climate disconnect” in the voting records of the Republican members representing the districts most affected by the soaring temperatures in 2012. They cast anti-climate votes 96 percent of the time.

No similar “climate disconnect” was found in the voting records of House Democrats.
