Three Candidates Running for 86th District Delegate

Two Democrats, one Republican are running for the 86th district; Democratic primary is June 11.

Two Democratic candidates, Jennifer Boysko and Herb Kemp, are running against Republican incumbent Tom Rust for 86th district House of Delegates. 

Before November's general election, Boysko and Kemp will square off in the June 11 primary later this spring. Here's the basics about each of the candidates, and where you can find more information. 

JENNIFER BOYSKO (D)

• Originally from Hot Springs, Alabama and is a graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke.
• First job was for US Senator Richard Shelby. She also worked as a legislative assistant for Bayless, Boland, Madigan and Barrett on policy issues such as NAFTA, telecommunications deregulation, and alternative fuels, among others. 
• Moved to Herndon in 1996, with her husband and two daughters. 
• Served as the Herndon aide to Dranesville representative John Foust from 2008 to January 2012. 
• Has worked with many Herndon organizations including: Council for the Arts of Herndon, Herndon High School PTSA, Herndon High School Sports Boosters, the Herndon Fortnightly Club, Jeanie Schmidt Free Clinic, Reston Interfaith, Herndon Youth Optimist, and more.

HERB KEMP (D)

• Retired from the US Air Force in 2001. 
• President and CEO of OneAlpha Corporation in Herndon. 
• Earned his master's degree from University of Southern California and his bachelor's from West Virginia University. Also attended the Foreign Service Institute, Air War College Seminar Program, the JFK School of Government at Harvard University, and the Defense Intelligence College at the School of Attaché Training. 
• Has worked with organizations including: Northern Virginia Democratic Business Council, Air Force Association, Armed Forces Communications Electronics Association, and the Alliance to End Gun Violence - Herndon/Reston, among others. 
• Kemp's core values include patriotism, integrity, family, hard work, and high ethical principles. 

• Has served as 86th district delegate since 2002, and served as mayor of Herndon for 19 years. 
• Was born in Front Royal. Moved to Herndon in 1965, graduated from Herndon High School, and has a wife, daughter, two stepsons and two grandchildren. 
• Received his bachelor's from Virginia Tech and has a master's degree from George Washington University, as well as a master's from University of Virginia.
• Has worked with area organizations including: Northern Virginia Regional Commission, Northern Virginia Transportation Coordinating Council, Northern Virginia Community Foundation and Fairfax Committee of 100, among others. 
• Is a civil engineer and chairman at Patton Harris Rust & Associates.
