Greenbriar West Elementary School Team Wins Top Prize

Team takes top honors in fifth grade division of National Chess Championships.

 

A three-student team from Greenbriar West Elementary School took top honors in the fifth grade team championship division at the United States Chess Federation’s 2012 National K-12 Championships. The team of Ryan Xu, Revanth Vejju, and Vivan Cao-Dao posted the top score out of 20 teams competing in the tournament, held recently in Orlando. Greenbriar West Elementary School is a Fairfax County public school.

Xu earned a second place finish in the individual standings for all fifth grade competitors. Greenbriar West’s sixth grade team finished in fifth place in that division. Team members were Diego Gutierrez, Pranav Karthik, and Rishabh Krishnan.

A two-person team, composed of Andrew Wang and Asrith Biradavolu, also from Greenbriar West, finished in 15th place in the third grade division. Krishnan and Biradavolu teamed up for the K-6 Blitz to finish in seventh place.
