After a sluggish first quarter, the undefeated Chantilly boys basketball team settled down with three Brian Sydnor 3-pointers in the second quarter en route to a 51-38 home win over McLean in a non-district contest Tuesday night.

After taking a 24-22 halftime lead following an early deficit, Chantilly (8-0) outscored the Highlanders 13-6 in the third quarter behind 5 points from Trey Coates and lockdown defense on McLean's leading scorer John Pascoe, who had 13 first half points.

"It was a good win, we were active defensively and played with good energy," said Chantilly head coach Jim Smith following career victory number 409.

Despite going 14-23 from the free-throw line, Chantilly hit eight of 12 in the fourth quarter to keep McLean at bay.

Sydnor had 19 to pace Chantilly, while Coates had 10 and DeAndre Harris had 8.

Chantilly gets more than a week to rest, as they will not play again until their opening round matchup of the Pohanka Chantilly Classic holiday tournament against Patriot. Tipoff is 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27.
