Paul VI High School Move: Fresh Press, 'Feasibility' Hurdles in Fairfax City Exit

Supporters of the school's current location campaign to get diocese to change its mind about Loudoun move.

A month-old campaign to keep Paul VI Catholic High School in Fairfax is getting new coverage that may add to the hundreds already supporting the effort.

The Catholic Diocese of Arlington Office of Catholic Schools announced in December that the high school would be relocating in a few years to a new home in Loudoun County.

The move has prompted some parents to launch a petition campaign asking the diocese to work with local officials and keep the school in Fairfax.

Since Feb. 6, the petition at change.org has gone from around 100 signatures to 261. A related Facebook page is up to 337 likes.

“We just see this incredible community that has been built,” parent Silvia Neves told the Fairfax Times in an article out this week. “And a move will drastically impact that tight-knit community."

The article also includes a comment from diocesan spokesman Mike Donohue suggesting that there is still a long way to go before the new 68-acre site is set for the new school — likely around 2020.

"The diocese will continue to update stakeholders as this process continues and the feasibility of the proposed move is determined,” Donohue told the Times.
