Weekend Planner: Campfires, Musicals, Tennis, Car Washes

It's springtime — get out and have some fun!

The weekend is upon us in Northern Virginia and it's time to start making plans for some fun. Patch has compiled a list of events that the whole family can enjoy. Have a great weekend!

All About Bats Campfire
Several species of bats flit in the late summer sky. Look for them Saturday from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at Hidden Oaks Nature Center at a campfire where you learn fun bat facts and lore plus enjoy an American Indian story of how bats got their wings. Toast marshmallows over the embers. The cost is $6 per person. Register online. For information, call 703-941-1065.

'The Drowsy Chaperone' at West Springfield High School
West Springfield’s annual spring musical!  A frothy, fun send-up of musical comedies and their inherent silliness. Showtimes: Thursday, April 25 – Saturday, April 27, 7 p.m.  Sunday, April 28, 2 p.m. Tickets adults $10, students, $5. Tickets can be reserved by emailing: SpartanDramaTix@gmail.com

Edison Wrestling Team Car Wash

The Edison High School wrestling team will hold a car wash Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thomas A. Edison High School, 5801 Franconia Road in Alexandria. The fundraiser is being held to defray tournament and travel costs for next season. Please come out and support the Eagle wrestlers!

Six Artists, One by One

"Six Artists: One by One" features works by local artists, Elaine Florimonte, Debbie Glakas, Lisa Neher, Jackie Elwell, Sarah Swart, and Barbara Wagner on display at the Frame Factory.

The show runs through Nov. 4, with each of the artists showing their work on a rotating basis, at 5700 General Washington Dr., Springfield.

Young Frankenstein the Musical 

It's alive! From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes this monster new musical comedy. Students from West Potomac High School, 6500 Quander Road, in Fort Hunt perform Young Frankenstein this weekend. Performances are at 7 Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Tickets are $12.

With such memorable tunes as "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' On The Ritz," Young Frankenstein is scientifically proven, monstrously good entertainment and the only place you'll witness a singing and dancing laboratory experiment in the largest tuxedo ever made. Mature audiences only.

Tennis with WTT Coach Murphy Jensen 

Stop by this free event "Stroke of the Week," with Washington Kastle coach, Murphy Jensen. All tennis lovers are welcome! The event is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Friday at the Mount Vernon Athletic Club. Stroke of the Week will be taught by Coach Jensen, and then there will be opportunities for photos and Q&A. Public is welcome!
