Chantilly Baseball Defeats Robinson 11-1

Chargers explode for seven runs in second inning.

The Chantilly Chargers beat the Robinson Rams 11-1 on Friday at Robinson’s home field.

The Chargers exploded offensively after falling behind 1-0 early scoring seven runs in the second inning.

“We might not have hit the ball the hardest, but we were putting balls in play and finding holes,” said Chargers coach Kevin Ford. “I was real happy about that.”

Chargers sophomore Sonny Romine was responsible for most of the damage hitting in four runs in separate 2-RBI singles.

“I just stayed back and put the bat on the ball,” Romine said. “Caleb [Reinhardt] did great and we played great overall.”

Chargers junior starter Caleb Reinhardt threw five innings scattering six hits and striking out four.

“Caleb did a good job because he didn’t really have his best stuff tonight,” Ford said. “He threw seven innings on Monday and tonight he really stuck it out and battled.”

The Chargers offense took Rams starter Dan Cochrane out of the game after only 1.2 innings. Cochrane allowed seven runs on eight hits and his relief allowed an additional four runs on three hits.

What makes the Chargers rally even more impressive is that they performed after falling behind early to a good team.

“Robinson is a very dangerous team,” Ford said. “Our guys did a good job of answering [Robinson’s first-inning run] and hanging in there. It’s tough to let them get up because they like to roll when they are on top.”

Chantilly stayed in the game even with a six run lead, not letting their guard down on defense or offense.

“We’ve gotten up on some people sometimes this year and kind of put it on cruise control,” said Ford. “Today we didn’t do that.”

The Chargers went home with a big win and the Rams must put it in the rearview and focus on bouncing back.

“We will play again tomorrow,” Ferrell said optimistically. “You’ve just got to come out and give it another try.”
