Chantilly Boys Fall to Woodrow Wilson

The Chantilly boys fell to the Woodrow Wilson Tigers in a hard-fought battle on the hardwoods.

The Tigers were too quick for the host Chargers in the second boys semifinal game of the Pohanka Chantilly Classic winning 67-52.

A dominating third quarter for Wilson was the difference. Their stifling defense and four-corner offense resulted in a 21-7 edge in that third quarter. They spread the Chargers out and used their quickness to exploit matchups resulting in multiple layups or trips to the free throw line.

Marcus Coates, the star for Wilson on the first day was relatively quiet for the Tigers, but others stepped up in his absence. Seniors Dimitri Gaither and Dre Williams scored 19 and 16 points respectively while junior guard Cedrick McFadden added 12.

Chantilly opened the game strong, pounding the ball inside with success, and only trailed by one after the first quarter and four at halftime. Trailing by 18 going into the final period, the Chargers did not go down without a fight. A scrappy press defense and consistent finishing around the rim from junior forwards Brian Sydnor and Trey Coates cut the deficit to nine, but that was as close as it got. Sydnor finished with 24 points while Coates had 11 points and 9 rebounds.
