Chantilly Boys Lacrosse Triumphs Over Centreville

Both JV and varisty boys lacrosse teams beat Centreville on April 17.

The Chantilly JV boys lacrosse team conquered a district rival in a 12-2 win over Centreville on April 17.

Play was balanced until Chantilly scored with just over two minutes left in the first quarter. Alex Rizzi answered with a Centreville goal as the quarter closed.  Penalties hurt the Wildcats in the second quarter as they gave up four goals, including two man-down goals. The halftime score was 5-1.

Despite some nice stops by goalie Kyle Evans, Centreville had trouble slowing Chantilly’s shooting in the second half. Rizzi scored once more for the Wildcats in the third quarter, with an assist from Mark Mahoney, but it wasn’t enough to change the momentum. The Chargers controlled the ball for most of the second half, wearing down the defense and limiting Centreville’s scoring opportunities.

The Wildcats kept the score close throughout the game, with the score tied at 5 at the half; the score remained tied through most of the third quarter as well. Attack Nathan Marks, and Midfielders Zack Sikora and Andy Balberde, each had two goals for the night. Assists on goal were given by Tyler Vennergrund (two) and Kevin Hagan (one).

Centreville’s in-close defensemen Jake Hyde, Antonio Choi and Kevin Brawner each had solid defensive performances, shutting down Chantilly’s fast break threat in the transition game. Centreville’s man-down unit had a strong night, allowing only one goal out of six man-up opportunities for Chantilly.

Between the pipes, Pat Prosser came up huge in the goal for the Wildcats with a string of impressive saves, keeping the Wildcats in the game.
