Chantilly Girls Power Past Deep Run

The Chantilly girls were a dominating force last night as they powered past the Deep Run Wildcats.

The Chantilly Chargers defeated the Deep Run Wildcats 57-26 to advance to the championship game of the Pohanka Chantilly Classic and set up a rematch of last year’s final against Georgetown Visitation.

The Chargers full court pressure was too much for the Wildcats to handle and it propelled them to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter. Only nine total points were scored in the 2nd quarter resulting in a 15-point lead at halftime for the home team.

It was more of a balanced attack for the Chargers on Day Two, but the scoring was still led by junior Allison Rowe who finished with 12 points. Senior point guard Katrina Hutzell had 10 points and 5 assists while fellow seniors Carmen Watson and Lauren Mashinski each had nine points. Mashinski played extremely well down low and snagged 10 rebounds as well.

The Chargers will need the same type of effort and more if they wish to avenge their loss from last year and overcome Georgetown Visitation. Deep Run got 11 points from Maura Folliard and nine from Caroline Carbia.
