Chantilly High Weekly Sports Recap

The Chantilly wrestling team took first place in the Chantilly Kickoff Tournament.

Boys Basketball (2-1):

The Chargers dropped their season opener 46-42 to Madison on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Trailing 25-12 at the end of the first half, Chantilly scored 30 second-half points to trim the scoring deficit, but the rally fell short as Madison held on for a four-point win.

Since the loss, Chantilly has defeated West Potomac (60-58) and Lee (88-55). Bryan Sydnor, a junior, leads the team in scoring with 20.3 points per game and exploded for 29 points in the team's victory over Lee.

JV Basketball (2-1):

The JV basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat Yorktown 55-31 on Tuesday, Nov. 29, and begin its season with a victory. The team was defeated 47-36 on Dec. 6 by Yorktown, but rebounded with a 72-43 win over Lee on Dec. 13. 

Up Next: Chantilly hosts Yorktown on Dec. 15 at 6:00 p.m. 

Girls Basketball (4-3):

After playing five games in seven days, the Chargers found themselves 2-3 to begin the young season. The team was able to grab wins against Langley (36-32) and Potomac Falls (42-30), but dropped contests against Yorktown (61-51), West Springfield (57-41) and Madison (51-32).

The Chargers have won two consecutive games, over West Potomac (52-20) and Lee (52-22), outscoring both opponents 104-42.

Junior center Allison Rowe leads the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game and guard Carmen Watson, also a junior, has connected for six three-pointers.

Up Next: The Chargers head to Thomas Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 16 for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

Girls JV Basketball (3-1):

Chantilly notched a 48-29 road win over Yorktown on Tuesday, Nov. 29 but suffered a tough 28-25 loss one week later at Madison. The team hasn't lost since and has defeated Woodson (33-30) and Lee (55-15).

Up Next: Chantilly travels to Thomas Jefferson on Dec. 16 for a 5:45 p.m. tipoff.

Swim and Dive:

The girls Charger swim and dive team defeated Centreville (195-120) on Dec. 2 and Herndon (166-146) on Dec. 9.

The boys Charger swim and dive team defeated Centrevile (233-82) on Dec. 2 and lost a close meet to Herndon (160.5-154.5) on Dec. 9.

Wrestling:

The Charger wrestling team finished in first place with 200 points in the Chantilly Kickoff Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3. Lee finished second with 141 points while South Lakes finished third with 111.

Ryland Arnold, Walter Carlson, Sam Cronin, Ali Nadri, Cameron Rhodes, Ian Shircliff and Kyle Smith placed first in their respective weight classes.

Mike Irwin placed third.

A week later, seven Chargers placed to carry Chantilly to a sixth place finish in the Northern Virginia Classic at Fairfax High School on Dec. 10.

Ian Shircliff, Sam Little, Ali Nadri, Kyle Smith, Walt Carlson, Ryland Arnold and Sam Cronin placed in the event. 

Up Next: The Chargers are scheduled to compete in the Raider Invitational at Jeb Stuart High School on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 10:15 a.m.

Wrestlers Arnold, Carlson, Cronin and Smith will partcipate in the Beast of the East Wrestling Tournament at the University of Delaware Dec. 17-18.

JV Wrestling:

The JV wrestling squad posted three victories on Dec. 1 at the T.C. Williams High School. The Chargers defeated Edison 47-41, Wakefield 60-18 and Falls Church 39-36.

Up Next: The team travels to West Potomac on Thursday, Dec. 15 for a 6:00 p.m. meet.
