Chantilly Girls Fall to Georgetown Visitation in Chantilly Pohanka Tournament Championship

A battle on the hardcourts had Chantilly leading by 12 at the half and losing in the final seconds by only 1 point.

Georgetown Visitation is the back-to-back Chantilly Pohanka Classic Champion after defeating the host Chantilly Chargers in the title game for the second straight year, 44-43.

In 2010, the Cubs won in dominating fashion by 21 points, but it was Chantilly who jumped on their opponents early in this year's game grabbing a 30-20 halftime lead. The Chargers made 12 of their 22 field goals in the first half while the Cubs only made 5 of 24.

Senior Katrina Hutzell came out hot scoring a quick eight points in the opening minutes. Fellow senior Ashley Femi also played well getting her first start of the tournament. The defending champs cut the halftime deficit in half by the end of the third quarter and quickly evened it early in the fourth behind an impressive 27-point performance from tournament MVP Katie Gillespie.

Maddy Williams also had 12 points and was named to the all-tournament team along with Chantilly’s Allison Rowe, Carmen Watson, and Hutzell.

The Chargers will resume Northern Region play Jan. 6 at home against rival Westfield and will surely hope to have the same type of atmosphere in their gym for that matchup.
