Sully District Celebrates National Night Out

At least 12 events were planned throughout the Sully District on Tuesday night.

Communities in Chantily and Centreville joined in the festivities at National Night Out events Tuesday evening, as part of a message of crime prevention and solidarity with local law enforcement.

There were at least 12 National Night Out events planned throughout the Sully District, part of a yearly event celebrated across the country to increase neighborhood support for the police, anticrime programs and drug prevention.

Firefighters from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department rode their trucks to events, and let kids climb around inside. Deputies from the Sheriff's Office handed out information, and officers from the Fairfax County Police Department visited various parties.

Twenty-five employees from the Fair Oaks and Chantilly Target stores volunteered at National Night Out (Target is a sponsor of the event).

There were block parties, ice cream socials, pool parties, music, games and plenty of food to go around—and many homes with their outdoor light on, a symbol of support for the police.
