Dairy Days: Make Your Own Ice Cream at Sully Historic Site in Chantilly

Be sure to register ahead of time; details at the bottom of the story.

Get a taste of 18th century life by making ice cream and butter the old-fashioned way at Dairy Days on select Fridays in July and August at Sully Historic Site in Chantilly.  Children will get to churn butter, hand-crank ice cream, and play historic games.  Timed programs with online registration are offered at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. on July 25, as well as August 15, 22, and 29, according to a news release from Fairfax County.

Children ages 5 and older will churn their own butter and hand-crank their own ice cream, then enjoy the results.  There will also be historic games such as hoop and stick and the game of graces to enjoy, just as children of the 18th century did.

The cost is $5 per participant for Fairfax County residents and $7 for out of county residents; children must be accompanied by an adult.  Tours of the 1794 house and accompanying outbuildings are available for an extra cost.
