Chantilly, what are you up to this weekend? Here are some ideas so you can start planning some fun and R&R:

  • Northern Virginia Restaurant Week ends this weekend. Twenty participating restaurants feature special lunch menus from $20.13 per person and dinner menus from $30.13. More info.
  • This weekend, Fairfax County Animal Shelter will celebrate National Dog Day (Aug. 26). There will be a doggie pool party on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with games and prizes. Until Aug. 31, adoption fees are half off for dogs and puppies and other deals. More info.
  • The Mid-Atlantic Band Battle 9 Finals will be held at Jammin Java on Friday. Finalists include Holly Would, Sub-Radio Standard, Cyrenic, Simone and the Spectrum and the Tattooed Beachsluts. The grand prize includes $2,500 in cash. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. at Java, 227 Maple Ave. East. Tickets are $15, VIP seats are $18. The lobby opens at 6 p.m. More info.
  • Almost Journey performs this week at Friday Night Live in Herndon. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. with One More. New Jersey's newest Journey tribute band is expected to take the stage at 8 p.m. The free event is on the Town Green behind the municipal building at 777 Lynn Street. More info.
  • Runners will fill the starting line Sunday for the South Lakes 10K. The loop course offers fast flat stretches, along with some steady inclines and declines. Registration is $35 until Friday at 8 p.m., then $40. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at South Lakes High School, 11400 South Lakes Drive. More info.
  • The Workhouse Prison Museum celebrates Women's Equality Day on Sunday. The event celebrates the 93rd anniversary of the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote. The event includes costumed interpreters, a screening of award-winning student film "The War of the Roses," a performance of suffragist songs and more. The free event begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Workhouse Arts Center, 9601 Ox Road. More info.  
  • Starlight Cinema wraps Saturday with a showing of "Rise of the Guardians." Mythical characters of childhood become heroes in the Dreamworks film with the voices of Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman and more. The free event begins at 6 p.m. at 5860 Trinity Center Parkway in Centreville. More info.
  • Arts in the Park continues with a DinoRock puppet show Saturday morning at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. Following the show, colonial interpreters will be demonstrating crafts, while other staff show off park animals. The events begin at 10 a.m. at the park, 5040 Walney Road. More info.
