Hundreds of exhibitors will sell their wares at the Dulles Expo Center next weekend as the International Gem and Jewelry Show arrives once again in Chantilly. Thousands of people arrive at the Expo Center every year to check out the merchandise—the value of which sometimes ranges from a few dollars to a cool million. A full list of vendors is available online. Free jewelry cleaning will be available at the JewelBrite booth. There will also be beading workshops, which are technically free, but cost $10 for a class kit. General admission is $6 or $8 for the weekend. Chantilly’s Dulles Expo Center transformed into an arts and crafts Mecca this weekend as thousands of shoppers interacted with top artisans from throughout the United States at the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival. Hosted by Sugarloaf Mountain Works, the festival featured sculptors, clothing designers, woodworkers, painters, photographers, musicians and other fine artists. Scrapbooking event at Dulles Expo Center kicks off the Great American Scrapbook Convention
The Great American Scrapbook Convention hosted a Make N Take'athon at the Dulles Expo Center. One hundred "scrappers" (people who like to scrapbook) created four make-n-take projects over a three hour period. The four projects were provided by Clear Scraps, Boxer Scrapbooks, Quick Quotes and SEI. The Great American Scrapbook Convention is June 24-25 at the Dulles Expo Center.

More than 500 Pokeman aficionados crowded the Dulles Expo Center on Saturday to compete in the regional Video Game Championship Series and a chance to win a trip to the national competition next month in Indianapolis. The event drew participants from as far away as Phoenix, with some sleeping on the sidewalk in front of the complex before the doors opened early Saturday morning, said Miranda Daly, event organizer. The top 16 competitors from each of the three divisions (junior, senior and masters) won invitations to the national VGC in Indianapolis on July 8-10. Walmart is moving into the north hall of the Dulles Expo Center.
Update: 1:48 p.m. Bill Wertz, Walmart's media director for the east, said that the company is still in the earliest planning stages and there is no projected opening date at this time. Walmart plans to renovate the building, but it hasn't received any permits yet. Wertz estimated that the new store will provide 200-300 new jobs to the community. It will span 110,000 square feet, plus 5,000 square feet for a garden center. Wertz added that the new Walmart will be a full-service store with bakery, deli, produce and electronic sections. If you love a good crafts show, next weekend needs to be marked on your calendar. The Sugarloaf Crafts Festival will return, bringing with it 250 artisans offering for sale all manner of creation including fine art, pottery, glassware, mobiles, sculptures, cute little knick-knacks, photography, garden items and much more. Many of the participants will be offering live demonstrations on site, so you can witness the artistic process first-hand.
