Police: Man Led State Troopers on High-Speed Chase Down Fairfax County Parkway, I-66

Virginia State Police troopers arrested Juan Carlos Gudiel, of Centreville, as he was fleeing down Stone Road.

A Centreville man faces multiple charges after he tailgated and struck another car twice early Sunday on the Fairfax County Parkway, then sped away from the state troopers who tried to arrest him, police said.  Juan Carlos Gudiel, 25, first rear-ended the 2003 Honda with his 2000 Ford Explorer early Sunday, Fairfax County Police said. He then sped away—but not before the victim, a 24-year-old Lorton man, copied the license plate number and called 911.  Virginia State Police chased Gudiel down I-66, and then onto Lee Highway. He reportedly ran a red light as he turned onto Stone Road. At that point, troopers were able to force him to stop.  State Police charged Gudiel with reckless driving speeding to elude, disregarding a red light, …

Fairfax County Parkway, Fair Lakes Parkway Overpass Now Open

The interchange is intended to help improve traffic flow in the area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation opened the new Fairfax County Parkway bridges over Fair Lakes Parkway and Monument Drive to traffic Thursday morning. Motorists will now have a five-mile stretch without a traffic signal between Popes Head Road and Route 50. The overpass extends from south of Fair Lakes Parkway to north of Monument Drive. The entire project cost $69.5 million and is funded through stimulus, according to a news release. In addition to the overpass, the project widens Fairfax County Parkway from four to six lanes from south of I-66 to north of Rugby Road. Weekend I-66 Ramp Closures

The road will be paved as part of the ongoing interchange project at the Fair Lakes and Fairfax County Parkways.

From 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 through 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, the ramps from eastbound and westbound I-66 to southbound Fairfax County Parkway (Route 286) will be closed for paving as part of the ongoing interchange project at Fair Lakes and Fairfax County Parkway. The following signed detours will direct drivers: From westbound I-66: Route 29 (Exit 52) north to access the Fairfax County Parkway. See a map of the route. From eastbound I-66: Route 50 west (Exit 57B) to southbound West Ox Road (Route 608) to the Fairfax County Parkway. See a map of the detour route. Drivers may also take the northbound Fairfax County Parkway (Exit 55), turn right on Fair Lakes Parkway, and right on West Ox Road back to the Fairfax County Parkway. Click here …
