Fewer than 2,000 Dominion customers in Northern Virginia remained without power Thursday morning.
Dominion Virginia Power this morning released a list of where crews will be working to restore power Thursday. The list is attached to this article as a pdf (available in the media box to the right). "Lists are based on early morning work plans for crews. However, needs often change during a major restoration and crews stay on the move. They may visit, leave and return to some locations, and may perform work at locations not shown on today's list," according to Dominion. The highest concentration of current outages are inside the Beltway, however many smaller outages exist across Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Counties and elsewhere. The National Hurricane Center increased its predictions for rain and top wind speeds with Hurricane Sandy in DC and Northern Virginia.

Update 7:10 p.m. Monday: Hurricane Sandy has morphed into Post-Tropical Cyclone Sandy and is very close to making landfall, according to NOAA. Sandy is expected to bring near-hurricane force winds and flood-producing rainfall through much of Tuesday. NOAA added that the most severe portion of the storm will affect the DC metro region from 6 p.m. Monday through dawn on Tuesday. "Residents and businesses along the Potomac River...should prepare for a flood not seen since the floods of 1996," NOAA said in an advisory. The rain and wind from Hurricane Sandy is expected to leave the DC metro area Wednesday morning, but it may be too late to save Halloween for thousands of local children. Hurricane Sandy is predicted to dump several inches of rain and bring strong, dangerous winds to the area through dawn Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Sterling predicts there will be a chance of lingering showers Wednesday during the day with high temperatures in the mid-50s. Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a low temperature of about 41 degrees. Even if the storm itself is mostly gone, the damage may linger. Gov. (UPDATE 4:10 p.m.): Power outages for its customers could be "prolonged" in Northern Virginia due to outages from the coming storm, Dominion Virginia Power advised in a news release sent out Saturday afternoon. "This storm system will build in intensity over time and will remain a force for days, not just hours, causing major damage and extensive power outages," said Rodney Blevins, vice president of Distribution Operations, in a news release. An estimated 2.3 million people lost access to 911 service this summer when the area was hit by a derecho.
